The Art of Master Keying: The Course

As long as locks with pin cylinders are being sold, there will be a need for master keying and the class being offered here may very well be the last master keying class any student will ever need.

Students will learn how to determine what a good master key is, how to determine the way the keys should be cut, what the key specifications are, how to progress the master key in numerous ways to create the key bitting array, how to properly determine and use the various sub-master "GHOST” keys, preventing unwanted cross keying, information on various ways of creating keying charts using the master key and the developed change keys, why floor plans with door identifications are necessary, and how to create master key systems based upon customer requirements.

The ability to cross key without the need to "stack chambers" will also be explained and demonstrated. Upon completion of the class, the student should have the required information and understanding to accomplish almost any Master key project.

For those of you who need Continuing Education Credits, these classes have been approved by the States of New Jersey, both North and South Carolina and Tennessee as they are part and parcel to the courses provided by the Security Technical Institute a division of the Society of Professional Locksmiths.
